Supervisor

Laya Shakery, the founder of Little Bunnies and current supervisor, has worked with children for more than twenty-five years. She obtained her B.A. in pedagogy (philosophy of education) in the Netherlands and worked as a supervisor in a non-profit preschool, Het Vangnet. Upon moving to Canada, she continued working with children while simultaneously obtaining her Early Childhood Care and Education certificate and Infant/Toddlers and Special Needs diploma.

Staff

All staff members at LBLC, whether full-time, part-time, casual or on-call, are Early Childhood Educators in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators. Before hiring, we check the credentials, criminal record and references of each employee and require a letter from a physician stating mental and physical fitness to work with children. We only hire ECE staff passionate about child welfare and education.

Staff-to-Child Ratio

LBLC is a licensed group infant & toddler center with a capacity of ten children. In order to provide a stimulating, safe and clean environment we have three educators on staff at all times, so our ratio is 1:3, that is, one teacher for every three children. This enhanced staff-to-child ratio gives our Early Childhood Educators a greater opportunity to engage with children one-on-one, and observe and plan activities that stimulate our bunnies’ curious and creative minds.

Professional Development

At LBLC we believe that Early Childhood Educators (ECE’s) have a huge responsibility towards the welfare, education and safety of children, especially in today’s world where often times both parents work outside the home and longer daycare hours are needed. In many ways, ECE’s along with parents have become the primary caregivers of our future generations. This is why we at LBLC take our responsibilities very seriously and offer all the children in our care the appropriate balance of nurturance, professionalism and guidance. As educators, we are also interested in early childhood research, and regularly attend workshops and seminars to update our existing knowledge and deepen our understanding of childhood development. We also try to organize educational events for our staff and families and encourage our parents to attend various workshops.
